Child Development Reflection Paper - 1332 Words

Course Reflection In this course, I have learned theories of child development, principles of growth and development, prenatal development, infancy, toddlerhood, three-four-and five years old, six-seven-and eight years old, middle childhood, adolescence: thirteen to nineteen years old, and where and when to seek help. I really enjoyed the adolescence: thirteen to nineteen years old chapter the most because, people tend to forget that even though they in high school their brains are still growing and still need guidance like on social media or how to interact with other people. Social media is way different today than when I was adolescences where the only social media was myspace or aim. Perceptual development is the increasingly complex way that a child uses information received through the senses sight, hearing , touch, smell, taste, and body position forms the basis of perceptual development. Cognitive development is the expansion of a child’s intellect or mental abilities. Language development is often defined as a system of symbols, spoken, written, and gestural that enables us to communicate with one another. Social and Emotional Development is children’s behaviors, the way they respond to play and work activities, and their attachments to family members, caregivers, teachers, and friends (Marotz Allen, 2016). It is essential for every teacher and parents know the fundamentals of growth and development. As a future teacher, it is important that effective teaching and guidance depend on the study of growth and development of a child. Also, that effective learning takes place when learning situations are arranged in accordance with the growth and development of the child. Compare and contrast the major theories influencing early childhood education, and focus on the contributions of each to the current status of the field. Child development theories focus on explaining how children change and grow over the course of childhood.
